Chain binders are essential load securing equipment in the flatbed industry. Also known as load binders, or chain load binders, there are two main types of binders to choose from: Ratchet Binders and Lever Binders.
This type of chain binder uses a ratcheting mechanism to tension the chain. It features a ratcheting handle and hooks on each end that work together to secure your load with the appropriate transport chain. Unlike lever or snap binders, ratchet load binders store very little energy in the handle, reducing the risk of recoiling and snapbacks for the operator.
Also called snap binders, lever chain binders use leverage to tighten and secure the load. While this type of load binder is often considered easier and quicker to use than a ratchet binder, the lever does store energy, increasing the potential risk of recoiling and snapbacks for the operator.
Recoil-less Lever Binder
Our recoil-less cam action lever binder features a cam-action handle, making it one of the safest on the market today. The center cam rotates independently of the hooks, eliminating the kickback that typically occurs when the chain tension is released. A recoilless binder features the efficiency of a lever binder and the safety of a ratchet binder.
Grade 80/100/120 Ratchet Binders
We carry a variety of chain binders that can be used with heavy-duty chain grades, including grade 70, 80, 100, or even 120. Chain binders can generally accept a range of chain diameters, so it’s important to pay close attention to the working load limit of both the binder and the chain. While a lower-grade chain binder may work with a higher-grade chain, it will reduce the overall working load limit of the entire assembly. Remember that a tie down assembly is only as strong as its weakest link.
Chain Binder Sizes and Strengths
Our large selection of tie down chains and binders ensure you get the best chain binder for your particular needs. Although we do not carry mini-chain binders with less than 1,000-lb. working load limit, we do have some smaller chain binders that come in under a 10,000-lb. working load limit. For our heavy-haul flatbed truck driver customers, we carry heavy-duty chain binders that are ideal for securing large machinery and equipment.
Our range of chain binder sizes include smaller 1/4” load binders with 2,600-lb. working load limit all the way up to big 5/8” ratchet load binders with a whopping 18,100-lb. working load limit.
Popular Chain Binder Brands
We carry a variety of different ratchet binders and level binders so you can find ones that meets your needs when it comes to price, level of quality, and special features. Import tie down binders are typically the most cost-effective choice, while USA made chain binders often come with more rigorous proof-testing and durability. Our selection of USA made chain binder brands include Peerless chain binders and Columbus McKinnon binders.
