Proof Testing - Prove the Strength of Your Gear
Have confidence that your gear will perform under pressure. US Cargo Control provides professional proof load testing services to verify that slings, rigging hardware, and tie downs meet their rated working load limits and applicable ASME and OSHA standards. Using calibrated, NIST-traceable test equipment, we apply controlled proof loads and issue detailed documentation confirming your gear withstood testing without failure.
What is Proof Testing?
Proof testing is a controlled stress test designed to validate the structural integrity and performance of load-bearing equipment. Unlike inspections that rely solely on visual cues, proof testing physically verifies that your gear can withstand loads up to its rated working load limit without breaking, deforming, or failing. It's the gold standard for professionals to prove their gear is jobsite-ready.
When Should You Proof Test?
Proof load testing is not limited to any specific scenario, but is often required or strongly recommended when safety, compliance, or liability is on the line. You should consider proof testing in the following scenarios:
- When liability, project specifications, or regulations require it.
- To support traceability and compliance documentation.
- When creating custom assemblies or first articles.
- After material or design changes.
- For supplier qualification and quality control.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is proof testing required?
While not always legally required, proof testing is often requested for liability protection, project specs, or to satisfy safety regulations.
How long does the proof testing process take?
Generally, proof testing happens within 2-3 business days of the item's receipt of purchase, depending on the test queue. Standard turnaround from order placement to shipment of tested items is 5-7 business days.
What standards do you test to?
Our proof testing process aligns with ASME B30.9 and WSTDA RS-1HP standards. We are able to proof test up to 150,000 lbs.
What kind of documentation do you provide?
Every test includes a certificate of results - an electronic copy emailed to you and a signed paper copy shipped with your tested gear. This certificate includes the tested load weight, elongation, and result verification.
What are the limitations of proof testing?
We can proof test up to 150,000 lbs. We offer proof testing for nylon slings, chain slings, rigging hardware, including shackles and hooks, and tie-down straps. For nylon slings and chain slings, we can accommodate up to 28' in length in-house.
