Pallet Rack Netting for Warehouse Safety & Product Containment
Pallet rack netting is a simple, effective solution for improving warehouse safety and preventing product fall-through from pallet racking systems. Designed for industrial environments, these netting systems help protect workers, reduce product damage, and keep aisles clear of hazards.
Built from durable, abrasion-resistant webbing, rack netting provides long-term performance in demanding warehouse conditions. Whether you're managing high-volume distribution, case picking, or bulk storage, pallet rack netting helps maintain a safer and more organized facility.
What Is Pallet Rack Netting?
Pallet rack netting is a safety barrier installed on the back of pallet rack systems to prevent items from falling into aisles or adjacent work areas. Once secured to the rack beams and uprights, the netting is tensioned to help catch or stop items that may shift or fall during storage or handling.
Unlike traditional cord-style netting, webbing netting is constructed from flat, interlocking strands that offer increased strength and durability. The open webbing design allows for visibility and airflow while still providing reliable containment. This makes it an effective solution for improving safety without interfering with daily warehouse operations or inventory access.
Benefits of Warehouse Rack Netting
Warehouse rack netting helps reduce the risk of workplace injuries, product loss, and operational downtime. By containing items within the rack system, it minimizes the need for cleanup and prevents disruptions in high-traffic areas.
Key benefits include:
- Prevents product fall-through into aisles and walkways
- Protects workers from falling inventory
- Reduces product damage and loss
- Improves overall warehouse safety and organization
- Supports safer, more efficient operations
· Compatible with offset-mounted rack installations (hardware not included)
Pallet Rack Netting vs. Other Safety Solutions
Pallet rack netting offers a flexible and efficient alternative to more rigid safety systems.
-
Netting vs. Wire Mesh Panels:
Netting is lighter, easier to install, and more adaptable to different rack sizes, while mesh panels are permanent and less flexible. -
Netting vs. Safety Bars:
Safety bars provide limited coverage, whereas netting creates a full barrier to contain smaller or shifting items. -
Netting vs. Rack Guards:
Rack guards protect uprights from impact, but do not prevent falling inventory. Netting addresses fall-through risk directly.
For many warehouse environments, netting provides the best balance of coverage, flexibility, and ease of installation.
Designed for Pallet Rack Applications
These rack netting systems are designed specifically for pallet racking layouts. Modular sizing options allow you to cover common rack bays, making it easy to configure a system that fits your facility. Simply secure the netting to the upright and horizontal beams of your racking and tension the cam buckles.
Available sizes cover:
- Rack widths from 8 ft to 12 ft
- Heights of 4 ft or 5 ft
This flexibility allows you to mix and match netting panels to match your rack configuration without overcomplicating installation. Can be used in offset-mounted rack setups with appropriate hardware (not included), creating space behind the rack for pallet overhang while maintaining containment.
Common Warehouse Applications
Pallet rack netting is commonly used in:
- Back-of-rack fall protection for pallet storage
- Case picking and flow rack systems
- Distribution centers handling loose or shifting inventory
- Warehouses with active aisles and pedestrian traffic
It’s especially useful in environments where small items, cartons, or irregular loads are stored at height.
Manufactured in the USA: Built in Our Urbana Facility
Our pallet rack netting is manufactured in-house at our Urbana, Iowa facility using industrial-grade webbing and precision sewing equipment. Each net is carefully assembled by experienced technicians, with reinforced stitching and consistent webbing patterns to ensure durability and performance. By controlling the manufacturing process from start to finish, we’re able to maintain strict quality standards, offer custom configurations, and deliver reliable netting solutions you can trust.
How to Choose the Right Rack Netting Size
Selecting the correct netting size is straightforward:
- Decide what you want to protect. Identify whether you need netting for one bay, two bays, three bays, or a full section of rack
- Measure the clear bay width from upright to upright
- Measure the height you need covered: Measure vertically from the lowest point you want protected to the highest point where product could fall. US Cargo Control offers 4’ and 5’ heights.
- Choose a matching net width for proper coverage

How to Attach Pallet Rack Netting (Strap-Mounted Webbing)
1. Position the Net
- Hold the net up against the back of the pallet rack bay
- Align it so it fully covers the open area behind stored products
- Make sure the webbing grid is centered across the bay
2. Secure the Top Straps
- Start at the top beam
- Wrap each top strap over or around the horizontal beam
- Feed the strap through its buckle and pull tight
3. Attach the Side Straps
- Wrap the vertical edge straps around the upright posts
- Tighten each strap so the net sits flat and square
4. Secure the Bottom Straps
- Attach the bottom straps to the lower beam or rack wire decking
- Pull straps tight to remove slack and prevent sagging
5. Adjust Tension Across the Net
- Go back and tighten all straps evenly
- The net should be:
- Firm and slightly tensioned
- Not sagging or loose
- Sitting flush against the rack opening
6. Final Check
- Confirm all buckles are secure
- Ensure there are no gaps where product could fall through
- Verify straps are not twisted and are evenly spaced
Safety & Compliance
Pallet rack netting helps reduce the risk of falling objects and supports safer material storage practices. While not load-rated, it aligns with OSHA guidelines (29 CFR 1910.176(b)) requiring materials to be secured to prevent hazards, and can be used as part of a broader warehouse safety system.
