Cordstrap Buckles
When it comes to securing shipping strapping, you need the right metal strapping buckles. Using the right buckles ensures your strapping is properly tensioned and will remain that way.
What are Strapping Buckles?
Manufactured from high-quality steel wire, our Cordstrap buckles are the most consistent closure method in the industry. They are self-locking, with a joint efficiency of up to 90%.
There are two types of metal strapping buckles to choose from: phosphate-coated and galvanized. The type you need depends on the strapping you use - if you choose the wrong type, you may not achieve the full system breaking strength for that strap.
Phosphate Buckles
Phosphate buckles are a galvanized steel buckle with a phosphate treatment. Designed to work with woven strapping, the rougher coat provides more friction to hold the woven strap better.
Galvanized Buckles
Galvanized buckles should be used with composite strapping, as they have a smoother surface that allows the composite strap to slide through more easily. The friction from the phosphate buckles isn't needed.
How to Use Strapping Buckles
The buckles are designed with top and bottom legs that close during the tensioning process to keep your strap firmly in place. The bottom legs are pitched higher than the top legs, and the system is considered complete (meaning it has achieved full system breaking strength), when the bottom leg is closed tightly on top of the buckle.
To make sure your buckle is aligned correctly, when attaching it to your strap, the top and bottom legs should look like a C.
Note: Buckles should not be re-used - the strength rating would not be the same as an unused buckle.
