Bungee Cord Tie Downs
When you need quick, reliable tension for light-duty cargo securement, a high-quality bungee cord gets the job done. Our versatile rubber bungee cords with hooks and ball bungee cords are two of the most useful pieces of equipment you can have on hand when it comes to securing your cargo.
Tough and durable, bungee cords offer a combination of elasticity and strength designed for trucking, moving, automotive, warehouse, and everyday utility use. Built with durable elastic cores and reinforced hooks, these versatile tie-downs help keep your gear secure while allowing the flexibility needed to absorb shock during transport.
What Is a Bungee Cord?
A bungee cord, also known as a shock cord or elastic tie-down, is a stretchable strap made with a rubber core and a protective outer jacket. The elastic design maintains consistent tension, even when loads shift slightly during movement. We offer two styles, depending on your application.
Bungee Cord with Hooks
Bungee cords with hooks are the most popular option, as they are incredibly easy to install and are compatible with most connection points such as trailer rails, tarp grommets, roof racks, or pickup beds.
Ball Bungee Cords
Ball bungee tie downs are designed with a durable end ball to easily loop and secure the elastic length in place.
This method is recommended for more delicate cargo, as you won't have to worry about hook-related scratches.
They are also perfect for bundling cords, chains, etc. together for easy carrying or storage.
What is a Bungee Cord Made Of?
These straps have a core made of continuous strands of rubber surrounded by a polyurethane jacket, with hooks or ball end hardware. The inner core provides excellent shock resistant, and the fabric jacket resists abrasion and UV rays, standing up to harsh weather conditions. The hooks have a PVC coating to prevent scratching.
We also sell replacement bungee hooks.
Common Uses for Bungee Cords
From tying down nearly any type of cargo to a trailer, truck, rooftop car carrier, RV, etc. to attaching a flatbed tarp or holding doors or gates open or closed, bungee cords are incredibly versatile tools for a wide variety of situations. It's not hard to find a use for them around any home or business:
- Securing tarps over equipment or materials
- Bundling tools, hoses, and construction supplies
- Stabilizing light cargo in pickup trucks and trailers
- Organizing loads inside moving trucks
- Holding coolers, ladders, and jobsite gear in place
- Garage and warehouse storage solutions
- Keeping lids on cans and boxes.
While a bungee cord is ideal for light to medium-duty applications, it should not replace ratchet straps or winch straps for heavy, DOT-regulated loads.
How to Choose the Right Bungee Cord
1. Match the Application
Use lighter-duty bungee cords for bundling or tarp tie-downs. For more demanding jobs, select thicker, heavy-duty options.
2. Measure Anchor Points
Select a cord length close to your anchor-to-anchor distance, allowing safe stretch without excessive tension.
Frequently Asked Questions About Bungee Cords
Q: What is a bungee cord used for?
A: A bungee cord is used to secure lightweight cargo, hold tarps in place, bundle equipment, and stabilize loads during transport. Its elastic design maintains tension while allowing flexibility when loads shift.
Q: What is another name for a bungee cord?
A: A bungee cord is also known as a elastic strap, stretch cord, or elastic tie-down.
Q: How likely is a bungee cord to break?
A: Bungee cords can break if overstretched or exposed to prolonged UV damage. To prevent these types of failures, inspect the bungee cords before each use and use only as intended.
Q: Are bungee cords safe for trailer loads?
A: They are suitable for light-duty stabilization but should not replace ratchet straps or winch straps for heavy loads.
Q: How far can a bungee cord stretch?
A: Most bungee cords safely stretch up to approximately 1.5 times their original length. Overstretching can weaken the internal rubber core.
Q: Do bungee cords wear out over time?
A: Yes. Exposure to sunlight, moisture, and repeated tension cycles can degrade elasticity. Replacing worn cords helps maintain safe performance.
Q: What size bungee cord should I buy?
A: Choose a length that closely matches your anchor distance with moderate stretch. For heavier applications, select a thicker diameter cord.
Q: How are bungee cords measured?
A: We sell a variety of sizes and lengths, from 6" to 48" in length. These cords are measured by laying them out flat and measuring from one end to another.

*WARNING: Use extreme caution when stretching cord. Keep face and other body parts away from the cord's rebound path.
