Tarps

Trailer Tarps for Flatbeds

When it comes to transporting cargo on the open road, trailer tarps are a must-have for professional haulers. These heavy-duty covers provide essential protection against rain, wind, UV rays, and road debris - ensuring your load arrives safe and secure. At US Cargo Control, our tarps for flatbed trailers are built to withstand the hazards of the road.

What Are Trailer Tarps?

Trailer tarps are rugged, weather-resistant covers designed to shield loads on flatbed trucks. Generally made from high-strength vinyl-coated polyester, these semi trailer tarps are engineered to withstand the rigors of long-haul transport. Whether you're hauling lumber, steel, machinery, or mixed freight, our cargo tarps deliver performance and durability.

Flatbed Tarp Construction

When choosing a truck tarp, your first consideration should be construction – can the semi truck tarp stand up to the elements?

Material

Most US Cargo Control trucking tarps are made from a durable, tear-resistant PVC-coated polyester water-resistant material. It provides strong UV- and mildew-resistance, and is available in two different weights (14 oz. and 18 oz.).

The 18 oz. weight is considered heavy-duty – it can handle more stress and has increased tear resistance. The 14 oz. weight is lighter, making it easier to handle.

We also offer parachute tarps with side flaps made out of a lightweight airbag material. They are at least 10% lighter than comparably-sized 18 oz. tarps, and are more flexible, even when the temperatures drop.

Key Construction Features:

These features apply to most of our tarps, although some specialized products may differ.

  • Water- and UV-Resistant: Protects against moisture and sun exposure on long routes.
  • Reinforced Edges: An abrasion-resistant pad beneath each D-ring provides added protection when the tarp is secured using S-hooksrubber tarp straps, and other tie-downs.
  • Multiple Tie-Down Points: Rust-resistant grommets and welded D-rings make securement easy and reliable.

Choosing the Right Tarp for Your Haul

Picking the right cargo tarp depends on your load type, height, and shape. Always match your tarp size and style to the job to ensure safe transit. Watch the video below or keep reading to learn more about each tarp type:

lumber tarps for flatbed

Lumber Trailer Tarps

flatbed lumber tarp is a versatile load tarp intended for specialized lumber hauling, but it can also be used as an all-purpose cover to protect a variety of loads like hay, pallets, and other bulky cargo. These are generally larger tarps, and they feature a flap on one end to cover the ends of the lumber units.

heavy-duty steel tarps

Steel Tarps

Steel tarps are like lumber truck tarps without the end flap. These flatbed tarps are designed to protect steel rods, sheets, cables, and other low-profile materials.

machinery tarps for semi trailer

Machinery Tarps

Machinery tarps are designed for covering and securing large, irregular-sized loads such as manufacturing or machine equipment during transport. This style can also be used to cover wood or steel products such as plywood, cables, rods, or sheets.

smoke flatbed tarps

Smoke and Nose Tarps

Smoke tarps are smaller than the lumber and steel versions – they are used to cover the front of a load to protect it from exhaust smoke, dirt, and soot. These truck tarps also do a great job of shielding the cargo from bugs and road debris.

roll tarps

Roll and Dump Truck Tarps

Roll tarps quickly and reliably contain payloads and create a safer work environment for drivers, especially those in the construction and agricultural industries. A dump truck tarp is great for grain trucks, grain carts, wagons, dump trucks, fertilizer tenders, and hopper trailers.

coil tarps for trucks

Coil Tarps

Coil tarps, also known as coil bags, are commonly used to protect steel or aluminum coils or other round-shaped items during transport. The upper half of the tarp is fitted to match the coil’s rounded shape, allowing it to slip on more easily. This also limits the amount of excess material that would need to be folded and strapped down before hauling.

3-piece heavy duty tarps for sale

3-Piece Flatbed Tarps

three-piece tarp splits the weight over three truck tarps instead of two when covering a full load on a standard flatbed trailer. Less weight per piece makes for easier physical handling. You can even use each section individually if needed.

parachute truck tarps

Parachute Tarps

Parachute tarpaulins are ultra lightweight, made from a heavy-duty 18 oz. vinyl top and flap to protect your cargo and flexible 6 oz. nylon sides. Easy to use and transport.

Trailer Tarp FAQs

  • What size tarp do I need for a 48' trailer? Most loads require 2–3 tarps, typically 24' x 27' or similar, depending on the height and type of cargo. We offer 28' length lumber tarps for flexibility in covering a full-size flatbed load.
  • What’s the difference between steel and lumber tarps? Steel tarps are smaller and cover shorter loads; lumber tarps have extra flaps for tall cargo.
  • How do I prevent tarp wear and tear? You'll need to properly secure the tarp (choose from tarp strapsrubber rope, shock cord, and bungee cords) and use corner protectors to protect the tarp from sharp edges.
