1/2" 6x37 Wire Rope Cable | Bright Steel
Made of strong Extra Improved Plowed grade steel (EIPS), this bright wire rope belongs to the 6x37 class, which is known for flexibility. Along with the 6x19 class, 6x37 wire rope is the perfect general-use steel cable and can be used for many applications, including as hoisting rope, suspension cables, winch lines, and more.
The 6x37 configuration offers higher flexibilty and better fatigue-resistance (it can bend repeatedly without breaking) than the 6x19; however, it is less abrasion-resistant.
6x37 Wire Rope Configuration
Our wire rope is made using EIPS-grade cable. EIPS (Extra Improved Plow Steel) refers to the strength of the wire rope - its tensile strength is around 10% greater than an IPS grade, improving the break strength.
The class of this wire rope is 6x37. These numbers nominally refer to the construction of the wire rope - the number of outer strands around the core and an estimation of the number of wires within each of these outer strands. So for a 6x19 class, the number of outer strands is 6, and the number of wires making up each strand ranges from 27-49.
Finish & Core
This product has a bright steel finish, which means it's uncoated except for an A-1 petroleum-based lubricant. This lubricant offers basic corrosion- and water-resistance and reduces friction to protect the rope. The lubricant is applied to both internal and external wires for more in-depth protection.
Fiber cores (FC) are more flexible than Independent Wire Rope Cores (IWRC), but are less resistant to crushing and should not be exposed to temperatures of greater than 180°F / 82°C per OSHA.
