Polyester Round Slings

Polyester Round Sling Rigging

A polyester round sling is a versatile, convenient, and cost-effective way to lift a variety of cargo. Manufactured in the USA from a continuous loop of polyester yarn, round slings are covered with a durable polyester fabric that is color-coded by capacity.

These slings are lightweight, making them easy to use and store, and they offer superior strength without the hassle of working with wire rope or chain.

Features of Polyester Round Lifting Slings

Why choose a polyester round sling over all the other sling options we carry? It's important to look at both the advantages and disadvantages to make sure it's the right sling for your application.

Pliability

The flexible, pliable design of a round sling allows it to adjust to the contours and hug a load better than other types of lifting slings.

Stretch Capacity

The round sling polyester fabric has less stretch than a nylon lifting sling, which prevents the sling from locking up on the load when used in a choker hitch.

Durability

Polyester offers exceptional resistance to mildew and rot since it won't absorb water. Because the jacket completely surrounds the sling, it keeps dirt, grease, oil, abrasions, and UV degradation from compromising the load-bearing core. The jacket also offers protection to the load from scratches, marring, etc.

They are more susceptible to damage than wire rope or chain slings, but are most more cost-effective.

Comprehensive Compliance & Tagging

All of our polyester round slings meet or exceed the standards from ASME B30.26, WSTDA RS-1, and OSHA.

Each sling also comes with a sewn-in tag that includes rated capacities for different hitches, material fabrication, date of manufacture, serial number for traceability, and an industry-standard warning label. The vinyl tag is protected with plastic for a longer lifespan.

Chemical Resistances

Polyester round slings are not affected by bleaching agents or common acids. They can be damaged by sulfuric acids or alkaline, however.

Temperature Range

These slings can be used in temperatures from -40 degrees Fahrenheit (-40 degrees Celsius) to 194 degrees Fahrenheit (90 degrees Celsius).

Types of Polyester Round Slings

Endless round slings and eye & eye round slings are extremely similar, with identical rated capacities, the compatibility with all sling types, and the same standard color jacket system.

Endless

A round sling in an endless design is simply one large "endless" loop. A benefit of an endless round sling design is that the wear points can be adjusted with each use, to extend the working life of the sling.

Eye & Eye

Eye & eye lift slings are created by attaching a wear pad to both sides of the sling to create loop eyes on each end.

Polyester Round Sling Capacities

The capacity of the round sling depends on the sling type and the hitch used in your lift. Polyester round slings can be used in vertical, choker, and basket hitches. The standard basket hitch capacity requires both legs positioned at 90 degrees to the load. As the angle between the legs and the load gets smaller, so does the rated capacity.

Note: Basket sling angles below 30 degrees are not recommended.

How to Measure

A polyester round sling is measured from sling tip to tip when laid in a flat position. It should not be measured by circumference.

It's also important to note that the round sling diameter refers to the thickness of the core polyester rope, not the fabric jacket cover.

Polyester Round Sling Protection

"Slings in contact with edges, corners, protrusions, or abrasive surfaces shall be protected with a material of sufficient strength, thickness, and construction to prevent damage." - ASME B30.9 (2021) 9-5.10.4(d)

Make sure your lifting setup meets the necessary requirements - explore our selection of sling protection, including a cut-resistant option! If you aren't sure what you're looking for, we have several charts that break down which sling protection sizes work with each polyester round sling type.

Custom Round Slings

If you don't see the size you're looking for, let us know. Custom lifting slings are always an option at US Cargo Control - you can request a sling up to 100'!

Sling Proof Testing Certificates

Proof testing certificates are available for a nominal fee and must be requested at the time of ordering. Testing is performed in the factory where the polyester round sling is pull tested to 2x the vertical rating and officially recorded as proof for governing bodies.

Since only random slings are tested during production, a request must be made prior to manufacturing.

Polyester Lifting Sling Inspections

You should be inspecting your slings periodically, as well as before each use. The primary signs that you need to remove the sling from service are generally clear. The below is not a comprehensive list:

  • Tag Damage: If the tag is missing or illegible, you cannot use the sling. You cannot use jacket color as a substitute for determining the capacities.
  • Jacket Damage: Even if the inner threads are undamaged, it's recommended that you remove the sling from service.
  • Multiple Inner Yarn Knots: One knot is from the sling's manufacture. Any additional knots indicate damage.
