Heavy-Duty Tent Stakes & Pegs
When it comes to setting up a secure shelter, tent stakes are a must-have. Also known as tent pins or tent pegs, these small but vital tools anchor tents, canopies, and shelters firmly to the ground, providing stability against wind, rain, and shifting terrain. Whether you’re camping in the backcountry or setting up a large commercial canopy, the right stake makes all the difference.
Our commercial tent stakes are made in the USA from high-quality steel in a variety of colors.
Tent Spike Construction
Our tent stakes are all forged from steel for a great all-around quality spike for many conditions.
Many are also either heat-treated, or have a baked enamel finish. Both result in a hardened stake that has the strength and durability to be driven into pavement, frozen ground, and other hard surfaces.
Shapes & Designs
The design of a tent stake affects how well it grips the ground:
- Peg Tent Stakes - Simple, cylindrical design with a head or on top for holding your tent line. The bottom is pointed for easy driving into the ground. These are our heavy-duty option.
- Double-Head Peg Tent Stake - This style is the same as the standard peg tent stakes, but has an extra head that will protrude from the ground, making it easier to remove.
- Hook Stake - This classic style is versatile but tends to have less holding power than the heavier-duty peg tent stakes.
Canopy Stake Sizes
Our lengths range from 10" all the way to 42", giving you options for both home and commercial tent stake applications. Whether you need heavy-duty tent anchors for pop up and camping tents, wedding tents, party and event tents, canopies, solar shades, light maintenance enclosure (LME) tents, Tent Extendable Modular Personnel (TEMPER) tents or inflatables, you'll find a length that will work for you.
Our 18" tent peg size is often purchased for use as a kite anchor as well.
Tent Peg Color Options
Color can be important when choosing a canopy stake, and US Cargo Control carries five standard colors: red, black, clear, orange and yellow. Each color offers different key benefits.
High Visibility Colors
Red, yellow, and orange are all great options for high visibility. They lessen the chances of someone tripping over a spike, and are the ideal choice for situations with taller grass, weeds, or high foot traffic. Orange is also a popular choice for hunters.
A military-approved red tent stake is available too. This type II stake meets the specifications of NSN 8340-00-823-7461.
Complementary Colors
For events where you aren't worried about trip hazards or you need to match the theme, choose black or clear.
Special event white tents like those for weddings and parties look best with clear tent stakes, while black is an all-around good choice to match nearly any color tent or inflatable.
Our clear stakes have a zinc-plating for an additional measure of protection against corrosion.

Tent Stake Use
Manufactured to last a lifetime, tent pegs from US Cargo Control are a quality choice. Be sure to buy a few more than you intend to use so you'll always have extras on hand if one goes missing or is misplaced. Buying a few in different sizes is also a good idea.
How Many Canopy Stakes Do I Need?
Because every manufacturer's tents and inflatables anchor differently, we suggest you use their recommendations concerning size and number of steel tent stakes you'll need. You'll also want to take into consideration how much wind load you may experience during use, as this can also affect the number of tent stakes needed to safely anchor an item.
Tent Peg Installation Tips
- Drive them into the ground at a 45-degree angle, pointing away from the tent.
- Ensure they’re deep enough to withstand wind and shifting soil.
- For hard ground, pre-loosen the soil or use a mallet to drive stakes in.
- In sand or snow, bury stakes horizontally or use specialized models.
Make Your Stakes Stand Out
If you expect heavy foot traffic, pick up some mushroom-shaped plastic caps at your local hardware store. Even colored stakes can be difficult to see in early evening and night time conditions. Protecting pedestrians from injuring a foot by accidentally stepping on a tent spike is worth the time and cost of purchasing plastic caps.
