What are the Different Types of L-Track Fittings?

What are the Different Types of L-Track Fittings?

L-track is one of the most versatile cargo securement systems available. Whether installed in a truck bed, cargo van, enclosed trailer, or toy hauler, the real flexibility of L-track comes from the fittings you lock into the rail.

Different L-track fittings allow you to attach straps, chains, hardware, and specialty accessories depending on what you're hauling.

This guide covers the different types of L-track fittings available and how to choose the right ones for your application.

Single Stud vs. Double Stud L-Track Fittings

Before choosing a fitting style, it's important to understand the two main connection types.

Single Stud L-Track Fittings

Single stud fittings lock into one slot in the L-track rail. They are quick to reposition, work well for lighter-duty applications, and are ideal when space is limited. These are most common for motorcycles, ATVs, light equipment, and general cargo.

Double Stud L-Track Fittings

Double stud fittings engage two slots in the L-track rail. This distributes the load over a wider area and increases strength. They typically have a higher break strength, offer greater stability, and are preferable for heavier cargo.

Also note that double stud fittings are not compatible with single stud round L-track anchor points, nor rectangular L-track anchor points.

Types of Single Stud L-Track Fittings

US Cargo Control offers two types of single stud fittings, both with a 4,000 lb. break strength and a 1,333 lb. WLL.

Single Stud Fitting with Stainless Steel Round Ring

Break Strength: 4,000 lbs.

A versatile, corrosion-resistant option featuring a stainless steel round ring. Ideal for attaching tie-down straps with hooks in trailers or truck beds where moisture is present.

Single Stud Fitting with D-Ring

Break Strength: 4,000 lbs.

A durable rubber-coated option that blends well with darker interiors. The D-ring is wide enough to accommodate a variety of hooks, as well as 1" wide webbing.

Types of Double Stud L-Track Fittings

Double stud fittings offer greater stability and strength. US Cargo Control offers several options to suit your needs.

Double Stud L-Track Fitting

Break Strength: 5,000 lbs.

A standard double-stud anchor point designed for general tie-down applications. A reliable choice when you need added strength and are fastening hooks or webbing to your L-track. It's also lower profile than an O-ring.

Double Stud Fitting with Large Opening

Break Strength: 5,000 lbs.

This is comparable to the original Double Stud L-Track Fitting, but the opening is larger, as the name suggests. The standard fitting opening is 0.43" tall, while the large opening is 0.50" at its maximum. It is designed for larger hooks or hardware that require more clearance.

Double Stud Fitting with O-Ring

Break Strength: 6,000 lbs.

One of the strongest double stud options available. The O-ring allows for smoother strap attachment and versatility.

Double Stud Fitting with Pear Link

Break Strength: 5,000 lbs.

The pear link shape allows the attachment to be pulled away from the track at an angle, making it ideal for use in tight spaces near walls or obstacles. It also offers compatibility with a variety of hooks.

Double Stud Fitting with Delta Link

Break Strength: 5,000 lbs.

The triangular delta link is often used with webbing, but it is also great for tie-downs in tight spaces, as it can be pulled away at an angle.

Double Stud Threaded Fitting

Break Strength: 5,500 lbs.

This fitting features a threaded stud, allowing you to attach custom hardware, brackets, or specialty accessories directly to the track.

Double Stud Fitting with Bolt Thread

Break Strength: 4,000 lbs

This fitting provides a threaded mounting point for attaching hardware, brackets, or accessories while maintaining track adjustability.

How to Choose the Right L-Track Fitting

When choosing an L-track fitting for your job, you should consider the following:

Load Weight: Heavier cargo typically benefits from double stud fittings.

Type of Tie Down: If you're using a wider-profile hook, consider a fitting with a larger opening. If you're looking to sew webbing onto a fitting, consider the delta link.

Mounting Environment: Moisture-prone areas may benefit from stainless steel components.

Need for Customization: Threaded fittings allow for modular builds and custom brackets.

L-Track Fittings and System Strength

It's important to remember that the strength of your L-track system depends on the rating of your fitting tie-down strap, as well as the quality of your installation and mounting hardware.

Always use components rated for your load, and ensure your L-track rails are mounted properly and securely.
