How to Insert and Remove an E-Track Fitting from an E-Track Rail
E-track systems are designed to make cargo securement fast and flexible. One of the key components of this system is the E-track fitting, which allows straps, hooks, load bars, and other accessories to quickly connect to the rail.
Learning how to properly insert and remove an E-track fitting ensures your cargo stays secure while allowing you to reposition tie-down points whenever needed.
In this guide, we'll walk you through the simple steps for inserting and removing an E-track fitting from an E-track rail section.
What is an E-Track Fitting?
An E-track fitting is a metal connector designed to snap into the slot of an E-track rail. These fittings allow you to attach a variety of cargo securement equipment, such as:
- E-track straps
- D-ring or O-ring tie-down anchors
- Load bars and shoring beams
- Hooks and storage accessories
Because fittings can be easily moved along the rail, E-track systems allow you to create adjustable tie-down points wherever you need them.

How to Insert an E-Track Fitting
E-track fittings are designed to lock securely into the rail slots while still being easy to reposition. Watch the video and follow these steps to insert a fitting into an E-track rail:
1. Hold the Fitting at a Downward Angle
Start by holding the fitting at a downward angle while pulling up on the locking pin using your index finger. This releases the spring mechanism that allows the fitting to enter the slot.
2. Insert the Lower End into the Rail
Insert the lowered end of the fitting into one of the E-track slots.
3. Lower the Opposite End
Once the first side is seated inside the slot, lower the opposite end of the fitting into place.
4. Release the Locking Pin
Release the locking pin so the fitting locks into the rail. The spring mechanism will secure the fitting in place.
How to Remove an E-Track Fitting
Removing an E-Track fitting is just as simple and allows you to reposition your tie-down setup. Follow these steps:
1. Pull the Release Lever or Locking Pin
Pull up on the release lever or locking pin to disengage the fitting from the rail.
2. Tilt the Fitting at an Angle
Tilt the fitting upward while keeping the release pin pulled.
3. Lift the Fitting Out of the Rail
Lift the fitting out of the slot and remove it from the rail section.
You can now reposition the fitting anywhere along the track to adjust your cargo securement setup.
