Piano Moving Tools

Moving a piano safely requires professional equipment to not only protect the piano and flooring, but the movers as well. A piano board (also called piano skid boards) or a piano moving dolly is a must.

Piano Moving Board

Piano skid boards are specifically designed for use with pianos. It has slots on each side for easy E-track strap attachment, and durable rope handles make it easy to lift.

Dolly for Piano

We offer two styles of piano moving dollies: a carpeted moving dolly and a rubber cap moving dolly.

Both provide extra grip to prevent slippage, as well as non-marking wheels to protect floors. The load capacity of each is 1,000 lbs., which is more than enough to handle the weight of an average piano.

Moving Blankets

While piano moving dollies and boards are excellent for lightening the load, don't forget to include some professional moving blankets - they'll add a layer of protection to the surfaces of your instrument.

How to Move a Piano

Once you have the necessary piano moving equipment, it's time to move the piano! These heavy but delicate objects require plenty of care and planning to ensure a safe transport.

  1. Measure the piano
  2. Plan your moving route - make sure to doublecheck the size of doors, hallways, etc. to verify the piano will fit.
  3. Add door jamb, bannister, and other home protection as needed.
  4. Reduce the risk of piano damage by thoroughly covering it with moving blankets.
  5. Securely strap the piano in place on the board or dolly.
