Eye bolts are used as anchor points for many loads and lifting slings in rigging industries. While marine grade stainless steel eyebolts offer the best protection against the elements, galvanized eye bolts offer great protection against the weather. Galvanized steel eye bolts are also a great value as they tend to be less expensive than stainless steel but maintain strength and durability in harsh weather.

Shouldered eye bolts can be used for either straight line or angular pulling in rigging applications, but are the preferred eye bolt for angular pulls since the shouldered design helps maintain the strength of the eye and the shank from bending or deforming. it's important to note that loading at an angle significantly reduces a bolt"s rated capacity.

Galvanized shouldered eye bolts can be used for either straight line or angular pulling in rigging applications, but are the preferred eye bolt for angular pulls since the shouldered design helps maintain the strength of the eye and the shank from bending or deforming.

Loading at an angle will significantly reduce a bolt"s rated capacity. Only shouldered eye bolts can be loaded at an angle. Angles from 0-5 degrees from center are rated at 100% of the bolt"s capacity. An angle range of 6-15 degrees results in a capacity of 55% of the rated load, and an angle of 16-90 degrees from center are rated only at 25% of the original capacity. Never load at an angle greater than 90 degrees of in-line.

The threaded part of the rigging eye bolt must protrude through the load so the nut is allowed full engagement of threading. If it protrudes too far through the load, you may need to shim the bolt with washers between the nut and the load prior to putting the nut on. Always inspect a threaded eye bolt prior to use and make sure the threads and receiving holes are clean.

A galvanized coating on our shoulder eye bolts provides a layer of resistance to weathering and other forms of corrosion. For more protection, especially in marine environments, a Stainless Steel Shoulder Bolt is a better choice.
