Motorcycle Tie DownsMotorcycle tie down straps are most often made from high quality 1” webbing and have either s-hooks or snap hooks on each end to secure the strap to an anchor point or track on your truck or trailer. Motorcycle tie downs can be ratchet straps or cam buckle straps and can be used in conjunction with handle bar straps and tie down anchor points to tie down a motorcycle. There are several possible methods to tie down a motorcycle including utilizing tie down track. E track or stud fitting track can be mounted to the wall or floor of a truck or trailer and motorcycle straps can be secured to the track by using spring fittings or stud fittings and attaching the strap to the ring on the fitting. Motorcycle tie downs are meant to be mounted to the frame of the motorcycle. Two on the front and two on the side are adequate for most dirt bikes and small street motorcycles. One procedure for using a motorcycle tie down is: Locate and attach ratchet straps to the anchor point tie down on the trailer. Place back straps in a position where they can be reached from the seat of the motorcycle. When loading two motorcycles and the handlebars or fairings appear to conflict, try reversing one of the bikes positions on the trailer. Start and warm up the motorcycle then ride or walk it onto the trailer. Insure that the bike is straight and then while still on the bike attach the rear tie down straps and tighten until the bike is firmly in place. Make sure the motorcycle is balanced and get off the bike and attach the front tie down straps so that the bike is firmly in place. When you are finished the motorcycle should be completely upright and straight. Shaking the bike should only cause trailer motion and very little bike movement. |
