When using a wire rope clip to create an eye and secure the wire cable ends, the saddle and nuts of the clips should be on the opposite end of the terminated end (or dead end) of the cable when forming the loop, which explains the popular saying throughout the rigging industry "Never saddle a dead horse."
When the wire rope terminations create the eye, there is a risk that the eye will bend too much especially with a heavy load. Adding a
wire rope thimble to the eye can help lengthen the service life of the rope by adding a layer of protection to the rope.
Choosing the correct type of
wire rope is also important when using a wire rope clip. Safety note: Wire rope clips should not be used on plastic-coated cable, unless the plastic is first stripped off. Install wire rope clips over bare cable only. Nuts on wire rope clips should be re-tightened/re-torqued regularly.

Drop Forged 316 Stainless Steel Wire Rope Clips:
Stainless steel is drop forged for extreme strength. Considered “marine grade,” Type 316 stainless steel has added molybdenum to help resist corrosion to chlorides like sea salt water and de-icing salts, so it’s ideal for harsh environmental conditions.
Precision Cast 304 Stainless Steel Wire Rope Clips:
Corrosion-resistant and extremely durable, type 304 stainless steel is precision cast for exact specifications and quality.
Precision Cast 316 Stainless Steel Wire Rope Clamps:
Type 316 stainless steel, also called “marine grade” stainless steel has added molybdenum for increased resistance against corrosion, especially in chloride environments that can lead to pitting. Precision cast for quality and exacting specifications.
