More About Heavy Duty Wire Rope Thimbles US Type SS 316
Thimbles can come in many different materials, varieties, and for different applications. These rope thimbles are made with high grade type 316 stainless steel which contains the element molybdenum for added protection in high chloride or corrosive environments. Stainless steel thimbles have chromium in the material that helps form a passive layer of rust on the surface that does not accelerate to the core of the material, therefore extending the life of the wire thimble. Steel thimbles are added at the ends of wire rope that have been turned back to form a loop, or eye. The thimble helps add service life to the wire rope by protecting the eye from deformation and degradation from abrasion from other hardware. Formed to meet Federal Specification FF-T-276b, Type III.
